Like a carefree backpacker on a year abroad, the works of nineteen San Francisco artists will travel the world in a suitcase to various destinations with no confirmed schedule or order of travel. In each location the exhibition will acquire traveling mates in the form of new artworks by local artists. Two local artists will contribute one work each to the suitcase so that it will eventually return to San Francisco as a new collection of international artworks.
San Francisco has long been a nurturing site for creative minds to study, work and play. A unique cultural centre in its own right, it is a city that is often considered a transitory stopover while artists depart to find success in other cities around the world. Destination seeks to facilitate new bonds between a core group of west coast artists and international artists around the world. The end result will be a unique, hodge-podge, yet comprehensive representation of an exciting group of international emerging artists. The end of the show will be celebrated with the production of a publication that will document the travels of the suitcase.
